Art Auction
A good time for a good cause is the underlying goal for the Pitman Rotary Club’s biennial art auction. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Academy, 72 E. Holly Ave., Pitman.
“We’ve been doing the auction every year since 2006,” said Bruce Lovelace, chairman of this year’s event. The auction will feature a selection of paintings, lithographs, prints and photographs. Sports memorabilia also will be featured. Marlin Art Inc. of Deer Park, N.Y., is providing the artwork. People who purchase tickets before March 13 can requests prints of certain types, such as seascapes or wildlife, or by certain artists, such as Wyeth, Picasso, Renoir or Nieman, be included at the auction.
The auction begins with a one-hour preview at 7 p.m. and Lovelace said the Rotary Club hopes to have musical entertainment provided by members of the Pitman High School Band. The auction itself is expected to run from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
In addition to the artwork, there will be finger foods, appetizers and desserts provided by Chef Rich of Pitman Manor. Wine and cheese and coffee also will be served. There also will be a 50/50 drawing at the auction.
Money raised from the auction will be used for Rotary projects globally and in Pitman. Past projects in Pitman funded by the Rotary include Sean Kelly Field at Alcyon Lake Park, the refurbishing of Sunset Auditorium and the electronic sign and message board outside Pitman High School. Money also has been used for scholarships for Pitman High School graduates.
Lovelace said the local club has about 30 members and holds its meetings at Pitman Manor. Tickets for the auction are $15 per person or $25 for a couple. To purchase tickets, call Lovelace at 589-6400.
