OK, we’re sure it was a bit more complicated than that. But co-owners Rachel Marker, Katie Kelly, Maureen Eisenhart and Lisa Whelan host parties for toddlers to tweens, including stories, dress-up time, hair, makeup and nails and more.

As Tammy Paolino reported in her blog “Eat My Words,” Endgrain Coffee Bar hosted a grand opening in April. Owner Joe Fultano serves up locally-brewed coffee and Le Bus baked goods at his shop next to the Broadway Theatre.

Dave and Peggy Lusardi, clearly not superstitious, opened Chloe’s Creampuffs Friday, Feb. 13.

The bakery features puffs in two “anchor” flavors (chocolate and vanilla) and an ever-changing selection of others, including mint chocolate chip and Bailey’s Irish Cream (for St. Patrick’s Day), strawberry, cookies and cream, banana, coconut and more. Seasonal favorites, including blueberry, pumpkin and eggnog, are planned as well.

Alison Lusardi, 24, runs the shop day-to-day while her parents divide their time between the bakery and their full-time healthcare jobs. “She’s doing a great job,” Dave says, and experiments with flavors to fill the puffs from Peggy’s grandmother’s recipe.

“This was on our bucket list for a long time,” Dave says.

The bakery, which also offers small-batch, homemade rice pudding, apple crisps and homemade pizzelles, is open Thursday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon to 5; hours are extended for theater shows and on Fourth Fridays.

Other businesses are taking advantage of community grants of $1,000 to fix up their exteriors and facades, including Fairy Godmothers, Star Nails (which is hosting a grand reopening Friday) and Fahrenheit Ceramic Studio, which will add a mural to the side of its building.

“I love Pitman,” says Maria Riegel, chamber of commerce member and owner of Alfred’s Stephens Salon.

“It’s like a little diamond in the rough.”
