New Pitman eatery caters to breakfast crowd
“We had a small opening the other day and then we put our sign out today,” said Danks, of Monroe Township, on Friday. “We wanted to feel out the town a bit.”
Danks said a friend told her about the borough and its growing downtown and she thought it would be the perfect place to open GiGi’s Cafe.
“We had a deli many years ago and we just really enjoy cooking with the family,” said Danks, who was accompanied in the restaurant by her brother-in-law, son, daughters and granddaughter. “Breakfast and lunch are our focus right now and we’ll play it by ear as to whether we’ll open up at other times. I’ve heard people visiting the Broadway Theatre like to get coffee during breaks in the show, so maybe we’ll open for that.”
Currently, GiGi’s is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cafe offers a variety of breakfast options, from omelets to breakfast sandwiches to blueberry pancakes, and lunch items, from turkey clubs to homemade meatloaf sandwiches.
“It was something that was always in the back of my head and opportunity knocked so I opened the door and ran through,” said Danks. “We’ll see what happens. It’s a really nice little town and everybody said they’ve been looking forward to our opening. Eventually, we’ll also have a special of the day, but right now we’re just trying to get on our feet.”
Danks said all of her food is “as homemade as possible” including the soups, meatloaf and meatballs, fresh home fries and more.
“We’re very excited about it and hopefully people are pleased and keep coming back,” she said.
GiGi’s Cafe is located at 13 S. Broadway and can be reached at (856) 553-6173.
